A ‘major incident’ has been declared after a Royal Air Force jet crashed in RAF Valley, Wales.
The Hawk T2 training jet reportedly crashed after takeoff in Anglesey this afternoon, with both crew members ejecting safely.
FlightRadar shows that an air ambulance has been deployed to the scene.
Multiple witnesses said they saw the jet take off, but noticed ‘flames’ as it began its ascent.
‘We watched it climb, then as it was parallel with us it started to pitch up violently twice… then both pilots ejected, and the Hawk crashed about a mile away,’ a witness told North Wales Live.

The condition of the two pilots has not yet been confirmed, but fire crews are on scene.

North Wales Police said in a statement: ‘Local officers are currently in attendance to reports of an incident involving an aircraft in the Pencarnisiog area of Anglesey, alongside colleagues from North Wales Fire and Rescue Services, Welsh Ambulance Service University Health Trust and Helimed.’
Witness Pete Bennett wrote on social media: ‘Just witnessed a RAF Hawk crash after takeoff, both pilots ejected safely.’
Donna Jones said: ‘We just saw a massive black cloud of smoke off a mountain; it looked like a jet had gone down.’
The Hawk T2 fighter jets are used for ‘advanced jet training’, according to the Royal Air Force, to prepare pilots for ‘complex tactical environments’.
RAF Valley is the home of No. 4 Flying Training School, where the UK’s fighter pilots learn to operate the jets.
