
A stretch of the M4 has closed in both directions after a collision, with the road expected to remain shut for hours.
Drivers face a full closure on the M4 in Berkshire following the serious incident this morning.
The motorway remains closed between junctions J8/9 for Maidenhead and J10 Reading as rush hour traffic gets underway.
National Highways said: ‘The M4 in Berkshire is closed in both directions between J8/9 (Maidenhead) and J10 (Reading) due to a collision.
‘A police collision investigation is underway and the road is expected to remain closed throughout the morning peak period
‘National Highways traffic officers are assisting with road closures.’
The road has been closed since around 9.30pm when the accident happened.
One driver said: ‘It looks like a terrible accident. Many fire engines, ambulances and police present. Been stuck on the M4 for over 2hrs. However, my discomfort is irrelevant. Let’s hope no one was seriously hurt.’
Diversions have been put in place for traffic.
Westbound drivers should follow the hollow square symbol and exit at J8/9 for the A404M.
Eastbound traffic will follow hollow circle symbol and exit the M4 at J10 and join the A329M northbound, National Highways said.
