An elderly man was critically injured after an alleged pub assault in South Wales.
The unnamed elderly man, aged 102, was left with serious injuries following a suspected altercation on Saturday, August 1, in Cwmbran.
The emergency services were alerted after reports of an assault at The Crow’s Nest pub.
He was rushed to the hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition.
A 56-year-old man from Llanelli has been arrested on suspicion of a section 20 assault, previously known as inflicting grievous bodily harm (GBH). He was released under investigation.

Detectives issued an appeal, asking anyone who was at the pub on Saturday evening between 10pm and 11pm to come forward.
Rumours about the incident were swirling online after news of the incident emerged, prompting the police to issue a reminder that ‘speculation on social media does not assist our enquiries’ and that the case is now a live investigation.
Gwent Police said: ‘Officers attended along with crews from the Welsh Ambulance Service and a 102-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. He remains in critical condition.
‘A 56-year-old man from Llanelli was arrested on suspicion of section 20 assault and has since been released under investigation.
‘Enquiries are ongoing and we are asking anyone who was in the pub between 10pm and 11pm on Saturday 1 August to contact us.
‘If you have not yet spoken to the police, you can contact us by calling 101, sending a direct message on social media, or via the form on our website, quoting log reference 2600249432.‘
The UK had around 16,600 centenarians (people aged 100 years and over) 2024, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Wales had the highest rate of centenarians – 25.9 per 100,000 people.

People who live beyond 110 years are considered supercentenarians.
