A man has been charged with manslaughter after a woman, Rose Smith, died following a suspected burglary.

Smith, 75, was remembered by her family as ‘the life and soul of the party’ after dying in hospital on August 12.

Police had been called to Tollington Park in Finsbury Park on August 11, attending reports of a burglary.

An 81-year-old man was taken to hospital after being treated on scene but is believed to have been discharged the following day.

Jeffrey Dean Rose, 46, of Apsley Close, North Harrow, was arrested 10 days later and has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated burglary.

He is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court today.

In a statement, Smith’s family shared: ‘This is the most devastating loss our family could ever have imagined.

‘Rose was a truly wonderful, outgoing woman who was loved by so many people.

‘She loved bingo, going to cafés with her friends and, above all, spending time with her family.

‘She treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.’

They asked people to remember the late great-grandmother for ‘the person she truly was’, calling her ‘loving, fun, kind, sociable and full of life.’
