A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an incident police have linked to two rival biker gangs.

A murder investigation was launched after reports of violent disorder in Pontnewynydd near Pontypool on 6 August, after which Anthony 'Tony' Jones, 56, later died as a result of his injuries.

Gwent Police said on Friday that a 40-year-old man from Torfaen was currently in police custody for questioning after being arrested on suspicion of Jones's death.

The force had already arrested 25 men in connection with the violent disorder.

Six of the men, aged between 18 and 73, are in police custody and the other 19 have been released on bail pending enquiries.

Police said on Tuesday that they believed two rival motorcycle clubs were involved in the violent disorder.

Officers had previously appealed for a man named Anthony Paul Jones, 40, from Blaenavon, Torfaen, to come forward as part of the investigation.

In the update on Friday, Det Supt Laura Bartley said he had been located and would be spoken to in connection with the investigation.

The murder investigation has led to a "significant number of arrests in connection to the incident", she said.

She said the force has also tracked down a Ford Transit van that was reportedly involved in the disorder, and they are currently establishing how it connects to the investigation.

Bartley added: "We understand that this complex investigation has caused substantial disruption within our communities since it was reported to us.

"We are extremely grateful for the patience, support and co-operation shown by our communities while this work continues."
