A 36-year-old man from Witney has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after a pensioner died following a crash in Oxford.

The man, who was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving a vehicle whilst uninsured, has been released on conditional bail while the investigation continues, Thames Valley Police said.

The victim, a man in his 80s, was driving a silver Honda Civic when it was in a collision with a silver Citroen C3 Aircross on the A4142 Eastern Bypass, near Littlemore Roundabout, on 16 October.

His family have been told and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The force confirmed the arrest was made on Friday, with officers then giving an update on Saturday.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Leila Summers said: "Firstly, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who has very sadly died following this collision, and we continue to support them at this extremely difficult time.

"We are conducting a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing to anybody who witnessed the incident, or the events leading up to it, to please come forward.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who was travelling on the A4142 Eastern Bypass, in the vicinity of Littlemore Roundabout, at around the time of the collision and may have seen what happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Thames Valley Police by calling 101 or making a report online, quoting 43260541914.
