A man has been arrested and charged for attacking a police officer during an anti-immigration march on Wednesday that affected several Glasgow streets.

Social media footage showed dozens of people, many wearing masks or dark clothing, walking through the east end of the city and chanting "send them home" and "our streets".

A 32-year-old man has now been charged with assaulting a police officer during the protest at Westmuir Street.

The officer did not require medical treatment and the protest later dispersed.

A heavy police presence was visible in the area, with Parkhead Cross closed and Tollcross Road, Springfield Road Duke Street and Westmuir Street affected.

It marked the latest protest by groups against immigration in Glasgow in recent months.
