A man has appeared at Belfast Magistrates' Court charged with the attempted murder of a taxi driver in west Belfast in 2025.

John-Jo Lynch, 24, with an address at Springfield Road in Belfast, was also charged with two counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property.

Sean O'Reilly was shot twice as he sat inside his car in the Bell Steel Manor area on 23 February 2025.

Lynch appeared in court in a grey hoodie and nodded only to confirm he understood the charges against him.

A detective inspector told the court she was able to connect the defendant to the charges.

A bail application made on behalf of Lynch was refused.

The judge outlined a risk of reoffending and a risk to public safety due to the defendant's access to weapons.

Lynch was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday following a Police Service of Northern Ireland appeal for information.

He will appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court again on 19 November via videolink.
