Manchester City celebrity superfan Noel Gallagher has had his say on his beloved club reportedly being found guilty of the majority of their 115 Premier League charges for alleged financial breaches.

The Oasis star - along with brother Liam - is a lifelong City supporter and a regular at the Etihad Stadium, having been likewise at the old Maine Road and also seen at away matches - including the recent controversial Manchester derby win at Old Trafford.

Speaking on the reported verdict on the Let Me Talk podcast, Gallagher said: “A little surprised when I heard it on the radio.

“Surprised because only that the club have assured us all along that they vehemently denied any of these charges.

“So it was a bit of a shock to find out that we’ve been found guilty of all but one.

“But really overall just quite sad really. Sad for the fans and for the players.”

Asked if it changes the context of moments like Sergio Aguero’s title-winning goal in 2012, Gallagher added: “Our focus as fans is always on the pitch and we know what we saw – they won it on the pitch.

“Whatever goes on in the boardroom, it’s nothing to do with the supporters or the players. The players won that game and won that title on the pitch.

“Whether some of those players should have been there or not, that’s nothing to do with the fans. We were there, we know what we saw.

“Does it taint it? I suppose in the eyes of everybody else in England it would, but I know what I saw and I know what I felt.”

The Premier League was urged by the Government to resolve the Manchester City storm “as quickly as possible” after they were reportedly found guilty of the vast majority of 115 breaches of financial rules, .

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy stressed it was in the interest of fans from all clubs that the dispute does not “drag on any longer”.

“This has got to come to some sort of conclusion relatively quickly,” she told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham - a lifelong Everton fan - was asked on ITV Granada Reports on Friday for his response to the reports of Manchester City being found guilty of more than 100 Premier League charges for alleged breaches of financial rules.

“I’ve only just been made aware of it – I think these are reports at this stage,” Mr Burnham said.

“But if they’re confirmed, obviously I will want to look at the report of the independent commission.”

Asked if he thought City should be stripped of their titles, Mr Burnham replied: “I would have to look at the report of the independent commission.

“People shouldn’t jump to those kind of conclusions.

“I know this has been a long process between the club and the Premier League. I think quite a contested process.

“So I don’t think it’s as simple as jumping to conclusions.

“I think we would all need to study the independent commission’s report in some considerable detail before reaching any conclusions.”

Another huge strand to this developing story, among so many, relates to potential action being taken by Manchester City’s Premier League rivals.

BBC Sport report that clubs are seeking legal advice about possible financial compensation in light of City reportedly being found guilty of the majority of the 115 Premier League charges against them.

The BBC say that a number of top-flight clubs sought legal advice ahead of the verdict and could submit individual compensation claims against City, claiming to have been impacted by their actions.

The Independent state that successful legal actions for compensation against City could be worth more than £200m to clubs.

They write that “at least four clubs preserved their right to claim compensation concerning loss of earnings under Section W of Premier League rules”.

The Independent claim those clubs are Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham, who were all contacted for comment.

The Premier League have yet to comment on the reports of Manchester City being found guilty of all but one of the 115 charges that the top-flight first brought against them in February 2023 following a four-year investigation.

However, a City spokesperson issued the following statement to when contacted for their reaction.

The club strongly deny all charges against them.

“The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality,” City said.

“As such, Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.

“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis that the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”

Attentions have quickly turned to what potential sanctions Manchester City could face, if indeed they have been found guilty of 114 of those 115 Premier League charges as reported and if an expected appeal by the club is unsuccessful.

A wide range of options is reportedly on the table in terms of punishments, ranging from a significant fine to a hefty points deduction or transfer ban.

Other severe potential sanctions that could be imposed include suspension, relegation or expulsion from the Premier League, or the stripping of titles and trophies during the period covered by the charges.

Good morning and welcome to rolling live coverage as the football world continues to react to the seismic story around Manchester City that has rocked the English game.

It was first reported by The Athletic on Friday that City had been found guilty by a three-person independent commission of all but one of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League in February 2023 relating to alleged breaches of financial regulations between 2009-2018.

It comes some 22 months after the hearing ended in December 2024.
