Manchester City insist that the process regarding their Premier League charges for alleged financial rule breaches remains “ongoing”, with “significant elements” still to be completed.

The Athletic first reported on Friday (September 25) that Man City had been found guilty by a three-person independent commission on all but one of the 115 charges levelled against them.

It is understood that a decision on potential sanctions has yet to be reached, with a wide range of punishments said to be on the table from substantial fines to points deductions or even possibly expulsion from the Premier League or the retrospective stripping of titles.

Reports claimed that City are expected to appeal against the verdict, which follows a hearing that took place over 12 weeks between September-December 2024.

City - who strongly deny any wrongdoing - were initially charged by the Premier League in February 2023, with the alleged financial breaches occurring between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons.

In a statement sent to on Friday after the reports emerged alleging that the club had been found guilty on the majority of charges, a City spokesperson said: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality.

"As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.

“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”
