Met Police said they were awaiting an update on his condition as he remained in hospital.

One local resident said he heard three gunshots on Monday evening and described seeing someone run out of The Landor pub and shout “call the police”.

The man, who did not wish to be named, said he saw a moped and white car drive off before the police arrived.

He said that women could be heard “screaming and crying” outside.

A 26-year-old woman living nearby said she heard four gunshots and initially thought it was the sound of a car backfiring.

She said: “There was a guy lying on the ground, lots of blood around him. There were loads of people around him, I went and helped.

“I work in healthcare and I went and helped assist.”

The woman added that when the police arrived, the crowd of people helping stood back and let them take over.

She said there was a significant emergency response with armed police officers at one point.

A former school friend of the man who died said: “He was a lovely, bouncy sort of guy. We used to play together in the play park just 100 metres from where he died.”

Another woman at the scene claimed the victim was in the “wrong place, wrong time”.

One local told London Now that she is considering moving out of London after the shooting.

She said: “It’s sad what happened, that someone lost a life. I told my daughter this morning that I want to move.”

A staff member from the Landor pub said: “The police have the footage. The shooting was nothing to do with the pub, it was outside.

“We have never had trouble here, but lately this area of Clapham has got worse. People seem to have lost their minds.”
