Man died in Majorca cliff fall after 'holiday hug'

A man fell to his death after going on a midnight walk with a woman he met on holiday, an inquest has heard.

Ben Clark, 41, from Andover, Hampshire, and Nicky Foers both fell from a clifftop at Cala Agulla in Majorca, Spain, in June 2025.

Foers told the hearing in Winchester: "I'm guessing he would have given me a hug and that's what made me stumble back."

Coroner Jason Pegg concluded that alcohol contributed to the accidental death.

Clark was on holiday with his daughter when he befriended Foers at their hotel, the inquest heard.

At about 23:30 on 26 June, the pair decided to go for a walk.

Foers told the hearing: "I remember seeing my feet, flip-flops coming off and just rolling and rolling and rolling."

Clark landed on the beach, suffering multiple rib fractures which caused bleeding in the lungs and respiratory failure, the court was told.

The coroner told Clark's daughter, who was in court: "All of you, particularly your dad, had consumed alcohol.

"He was not completely staggering around and out of it, but [had been] drinking nonetheless.

"There came a time on that clifftop where your dad was looking out to sea, Ms Foers looking into land, in close proximity."

Clark was described in court as "really funny", a man who adored his children and a much-loved grandson, son, brother and father.
