A Russian court has jailed a blogger for two weeks for ‘hooliganism’ after he insulted Vladimir Putin on an election ballot.
Stanislav Morozov shared a video of him writing ‘Putin is a d***head’ on a ballot during the recent parliamentary elections.
The blogger from Penza, Russia, was jailed on ‘administrative arrest’ for the stunt, with charges of petty hooliganism.
He was approached shortly after sharing the video, according to New Alternative Route, by a police officer and an officer in civilian clothes.
His arrest came just months after he shared information about residents being arrested and allegedly forced to sign contracts with the Russian Defence Ministry.

This summer, Morozov had two accusations lodged by local governments. One was for insulting Putin and calling him ‘evil’.
The other was regarding a video about a local military registration office, which Morozov called a ‘torture camp’.
Morozov also issued calls for locals to ‘unite’ after revealing military recruitment office employees were repeatedly beaten.
The Russian government has previously arrested opponents and people they see as threats to Putin’s power.
In 2023, Russia issued an arrest warrant for the International Criminal Court head judge who issued an arrest warrant for Putin on war crimes charges.
The British judge, Karim Khan, was added to the Interior Ministry’s wanted list, Russia media said, citing the ministry’s database.
Moscow opened cases against Ahmed Khan and three other ICC judges on March 20, days after the order for Putin’s arrest.
The ICC warrant ordered the arrest of Putin and Russia’s ombudsman for children’s rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, for war crimes charges relating to the abduction of Ukrainian children.
Khan is being charged with multiple felonies, including knowingly prosecuting an innocent person, pressing unlawful felony charges, and organising an attack on a head of state aimed at destabilising international relations.
Similar or related allegations have been made about other ICC judges. Russia and Putin deny any war crimes during the invasion of Ukraine, saying they are victims of Western aggression and lies.
