A man has praised the "incredible" work of hospital staff who reattached his thumb after he accidentally cut it off while using a chop saw.
Daniel Parry, from Harrogate, had been helping a friend with carpentry work on 15 October when the saw "kicked back" and "cut his thumb clean off".
After he took his thumb in a sandwich bag to Leeds General Infirmary, a team of surgeons worked through the night to reattach it. By 17:00 BST the following day he was able to move it again.
"Bear in mind just over 24 hours earlier my thumb was on the floor in a pool of blood," Parry said.
"To be able to lay in a hospital bed and move my thumb - it just completely blew my mind."
It was his first accident in 20 years of doing DIY, Parry said, and his first instinct was to take a photo.
"It went straight to Gillian, my partner, who actually at first thought it was some sort of AI-generated Halloween joke," he laughed.
"My friend took the phone off me and said, 'Dan really has just cut his thumb clean off his left hand', she then realised it was true and not a joke."

Parry was taken to Accident and Emergency at Harrogate District Hospital and then transported to Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), where surgery had been set up for him.
"LGI explained everything really thoroughly to me, which was great to calm me down," he said.
"But obviously there is that worry that you're going to come out and they've not been able to repair it."
Parry said he was "overwhelmed" by the work of the surgeons, who "connected the arteries, veins, tendons and nerves back up".
"Currently I've got no feeling in my thumb," he said.
"I can move it slightly, blocked by the plaster cast that's on there, and I've got two little pins which have to stay in for four weeks that's helping to fuse the bone back together."
Parry added: "I feel a bit stupid, but obviously wanted to just put the praise out there for LGI, even down to the nurses on the ward who had a good laugh."
Dr Stephen Wilson, clinical director for trauma and related services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "We are proud to have a dedicated team of expert trauma surgeons and specialist healthcare professionals at Leeds.
"This is just one example of the remarkable, cutting-edge care our team provides to patients every day and is a testament to their exceptional skill, collaboration and commitment.
"This could have been a life-altering injury and we are delighted for Mr Parry and wish him all the very best in his recovery."
