Manchester United deal agreed with left-back transfer in the works before Deadline Day
Manchester United remain busy in the final days of the summer transfer window.
Michael Carrick has overseen seven new signings, headlined by the £70million arrival of long-term target Carlos Baleba. The Cameroon star was the third midfield signing of the summer, after Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans joined by for a combined £87m.
With just a few days left until Deadline Day, Man Utd still have business to do.
There remains question marks over Marcus Rashford’s future - though a move to a Premier League rival has been ruled out - and a new left-back remains of interest.
With Luke Shaw, who is entering the final year of his contract, being the only recognised left-back in the first-team squad, Carrick is keen to bolster his options ahead of a return to the Champions League.
Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde was considered but the deal proved too expensive, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Interestingly, young left-back Harry Amass has reportedly been told he can leave the club this summer as Man Utd look to cash in on more academy graduates.
Amass featured for United during pre-season but was not in the squad for last weekend’s shock 2-0 defeat away at newly-promoted Hull.
Carrick said yesterday: “It comes to this stage and this is the stage of the window, there is always different scenarios. We’ve been really pleased with Harry, he’s done really well in pre-season.”
The 19-year-old could follow fellow academy graduate Toby Collyer out the door.
Collyer is set to join West Brom in a permanent deal worth an initial £3m, which could rise to £7.6m through achievable add-ons.
The agreement will reportedly also see United retain a 40 per cent sell-on clause
The Athletic report that Hull City and Middlesbrough had also made offers for the 22-year-old, but Collyer has opted to return to The Hawthorns after spending the first half of last season on loan at the club.
Also heading out of the door is likely to be Joshua Zirkzee, who is said to be in talks with Fiorentina over a season-long loan deal.
