Manchester United 'plan revealed' amid new Michael Carrick sack decision

Red Devils’ head coach looked to be on brink two weeks ago

Manchester United will not hire another interim manager should Michael Carrick be sacked.

That is according to Sky Sports, who report that there is a contingency plan in place should the under-fire head coach be relieved of his duties.

Carrick has faced serious scrutiny in the last few weeks after a poor run of results led to a nine-game winless streak.

That was ended on Tuesday in dramatic fashion as the Red Devils roared back from 2-0 down to defeat Roma in a 3-2 victory at Old Trafford.

The former midfielder had been on the brink of the sack following a heavy week of defeats by Como and Bournemouth a fortnight ago, but he was retained in-post for the trip to Chelsea, which United also lost.

It was reported that the club’s hierarchy wanted to reassess Carrick’s position during the upcoming November international break, which gave the ex-England international the visit to Stamford Bridge, and home games against Roma and Aston Villa this weekend to save his job.

That victory over the in-form Serie A side could well go a long way to doing so, but attentions turn back to the Premier League on Sunday, as United lie perilously above the relegation zone in 17th place after just one win in the top flight all season.

Julian Nagelsmann, Eddie Howe and Antonio Conte have all been linked with replacing Carrick in the hotseat at Old Trafford, but it is believed that the former United man still has supporters within the club boardroom.

It is reported that the club are still considering their options should a change be made necessary, but one name they will be unlikely to appoint is Unai Emery, who is close to agreeing a new deal at Villa.
