Map shows areas affected by new ‘danger to life’ weather warning days after Storm Boelo

The Met Office has issued new yellow weather warnings for wind, stressing that one of them could present a ‘danger to life’.

Storm Boelo is now moving away from the UK, bringing calmer weather after days of rain and wind over the weekend.

But this won’t last, as another deep area of low pressure is moving in from the Atlantic.

This is set to hit the northwest of the country on Monday and Tuesday, bringing with it yet more rain and gales.

One warning, which comes into effect at 6pm today, affects parts of northwest England, Northern Ireland, southwest England, southwest Scotland and west Wales.

The second yellow weather warning covers all of Scotland and northern parts of Northern Ireland from 3am until 9pm on Tuesday.

This one, the forecaster stressed, could present a ‘danger to life’.

‘There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties,’ it said.

‘There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris.’

The Met Office also said the weather system could cause power cuts, ‘longer journey times or cancellations’, road and bridge closures and ‘damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, as well as damage to trees’.

The incoming weather system is not expected to be as severe as Storm Boelo, which caused widespread power outages, flooding, and several deaths over the weekend.

However, its effects could be amplified with it following hot on the heels of the previous storm.

It is unclear whether the weather system will become a named storm, but the Met Office have predicted that midweek will bring calmer conditions as an area of high pressure builds close to the UK.

Rain will continue into Wednesday, but most of the country is expected to be dry by the end of the day.

It comes after Storm Boelo blew through the UK, causing multiple injuries and fatalities.

Two pedestrians were rushed to hospital after being crushed by falling scaffolding on Streatham High Road, south London, on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a 60-year-old man was killed by a falling tree in Dumfries, Scotland, just after 10am on the same day.

Another man in London was crushed in his car as he drove through Mill Hill at 12.40am.
