Melanie Chisholm, who was in the pop group Spice Girls from 1994 to 2001, is sponsoring Sheffield FC's women's first team for the 2026/27 season.

Mel C said the city held a "special place in my heart" after playing her first solo show at The Leadmill and the Spice Girls' first stadium show at Don Valley.

"Growing up in Liverpool, football is in my DNA, and to see the incredible growth of the women's game, from grassroots to the international stage, is so exciting.

"To now have the opportunity to be part of that journey at the oldest football club in the world makes me incredibly proud.

"I'm loving the new kit and will be wearing it with pride. I can't wait to be cheering the team on from the sidelines," she said.

Founded in 1857, Sheffield FC is considered the oldest football club still playing in the world. Its women's team was founded in 2003 and plays in the FA Women's National League Division One Midlands

Both teams play in Dronfield, Derbyshire.
