Two men who stole £12,000 worth of lingerie and sex toys from an Ann Summers shop have been sentenced.

Police were called to reports of a burglary in progress at the store in Long Row in Nottingham city centre at 04:32 BST on 14 August.

Nottinghamshire Police said Jason Kamal and Ashley Hillsley were detained nearby, and a search of Hillsley's car uncovered a "considerable amount" of Ann Summers products worth £12,059 in the boot.

Kamal, 48, of no fixed address, and Hillsley, 21, of Big Barn Lane in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, were both sentenced for burglary at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday.

According to police, Kamal initially denied entering the Ann Summers shop despite his face being visible on CCTV.

Meanwhile, Hillsley said he was "bullied into the burglary" and his primary role was to be on the lookout and assist.

He was told he would receive a large amount of money, and would no longer be a "nobody", the force added.

Kamal was also arrested over another burglary at Professional Mobile, in Front Street in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, on 28 July.

He had left a vape at the scene of the crime with his DNA on it, and the phone he was using was one stolen from the store, police said.

During this burglary, Kamal stole a number of electronic devices valued at about £13,000.

Kamal was sentenced to three years in prison for both burglaries, while Hillsley received a community order for the Ann Summers burglary.

After the sentencing, Ch Insp Kylie Davies said: "These are not mastermind criminals, quite the opposite, who had no chance whatsoever of getting away with this crime."

She added: "Business crime is not a victimless crime.

"Our officers carried out extensive work to ensure this case got to court and to ensure the owners and staff of these businesses received the justice they deserved."
