Men who wore high-viz to Ann Summers raid worth £12,000 ‘not mastermind criminals’

Blundering burglars who snatched £12,000 worth of sex toys and lingerie from an Ann Summers store left a trail of evidence.

Jason Kamal, 48, and Ashley Hillsley, 21, wore high-visibility vests as they broke into the chain’s high street store in Long Row, Nottingham, on August 14.

The pair didn’t get far as police officers caught them within minutes of receiving the call about the burglary shortly after 4.30am.

The store window had been smashed in to gain entry, according to the police, who caught the men as they tried to run away.

Ann Summers products worth £12,059 were discovered stuffed in the boot of Hillsley’s car, including underwear and sex toys.

Chief Inspector Kylie Davies from Nottinghamshire Police said: ‘These are not mastermind criminals, quite the opposite, who had no chance whatsoever of getting away with this crime.

‘All the evidence pointed to them where they had no other option than plead guilty to the offence at court.’

Body-cam footage shows police discovering a huge stash of Ann Summers lingerie and sex toys in the boot of Hillsley's car.

Kamal, of no fixed abode, first denied entering the store, but his face was visible on CCTV.

Hillsley, from Mansfield, claimed he was ‘bullied’ into the burglary and was told he would receive a large sum of money that would make him no longer ‘a nobody.’

The 21-year-old insisted that his role was to be on the lookout and assist.

Following the Ann Summers raid, Kamal was also arrested on suspicion of another burglary at Professional Mobile electronics store in Arnold.

He was found to have left a vape with his DNA at the Arnold store on July 28, and had used a mobile phone stolen from the shop.

He is said to have stolen £13,000 worth of electronics.

Kamal admitted six counts of burglary, and was given a three-year prison sentence for both burglaries at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Hillsley pleaded guilty to one count of burglary, and was handed a community order with a probation requirement and 150 hours of unpaid work.
