M&S worker trying to stop shop theft hit by e-bike

A man was injured when a suspect rode an e-bike into a shop, picked up about £200 worth of children's clothes before knocking a staff member to the ground.

Nottinghamshire Police said it was informed at about 11:45 GMT on Sunday that the suspect had ridden into the Marks and Spencer (M&S) in Giltbrook, Nottinghamshire.

A member of staff went to block the exit, but was struck by the bike and dragged along the ground before managing to halt the rider and bring them and the stock back inside.

The suspect then fled after a struggle, before police detained a 36-year-old man at an address in Eastwood on suspicion of robbery.

Police said the shop worker suffered minor injuries during the incident.

PC Luke Cutts said: "Having spotted an apparent shop theft in progress, staff went to confront a suspect at the exit.

"Rather than stop, the individual instead rode an e-bike directly into and over the staff member, causing minor injuries as a result.

"That use of violence and aggression meant that, when we located a suspect, he was arrested for robbery - as opposed to shop theft.

"It really should go without saying but nobody should ever be subjected to something like this when they're just trying to do their job.

"This type of behaviour will never be viewed as anything other than completely unacceptable, so we're pleased to have made this arrest."
