They are due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 13.

A mum and dad charged over the death of their one-year-old boy have been pictured for the first time.

Adam Johnson, 26, and Kylie Smith, 25, both from St Helens, have been charged following the death of Maero Johnson.

In August 2023 police were called after the one-year-old had been taken to hospital, where despite medical staff’s best efforts he died.

A second child was also found to be ‘neglected and underdeveloped’.

Merseyside Police said a Home Office postmortem examination confirmed Maero died of ketonic hypoglycaemia and severe malnutrition.

Police charged the parents with causing/allowing the death of a child, child neglect and possession of a controlled class B drug, cannabis.

They are due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 13.
