A man has been charged with murder after a body was found partially within a wheelie bin, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said Mohamed Abotaka, 36, of Grand Parade, Plymouth, was charged with the murder of 52-year-old Ali Barzai. The force said Abotaka was due to appear in court on Monday.

Police said Barzai's body was found in a service lane off Grand Parade at about 06:40 BST on Wednesday.

Det Insp Chris Lithgow urged people not to speculate and said a heightened police presence would remain in the area in the coming days.

The force said Abotaka remained in police custody, and urged anyone with information to get in touch.

It added inquiries were ongoing to locate Barzai's next-of-kin.
