A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead at a property in Norfolk.

Police said they found the body of a woman in her 40s at an address in Fern Hill, Dersingham, on Sunday, after they were called by the ambulance service shortly after 02:20 BST.

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to King's Lynn Police Investigation Centre. He remains in custody.

On Monday, at a hearing at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court, officers were granted an additional 32 hours to question him.

A cordon is in place at the property, and a Home Office post-mortem examination was due to be carried out on Monday.

Det Insp Alix Wright, of the Norfolk and Suffolk major investigation team, said: "We are in the very early stages of this investigation, working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the woman's death.

"I'd ask anyone who believes they may have information that could help our investigation to please share this with us."

In the nearby village of Grimston, a sign put up on the medical centre door said: "We are sorry to let patients know that Grimston Medical Centre, including the dispensary, is temporarily closed due to extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team.

"We apologise for the disruption and appreciate your patience and understanding at what is a very difficult time for our colleagues."
