From her favourite hotel to the hidden detail at Admiralty Arch, beauty expert Trinny Woodall gives a glimpse inside her life in London.

The Trinny London founder also reveals her favourite first-date spot, her most memorable cab journeys and why dogs should be welcome everywhere.

Home is…

Notting Hill, where I live with my daughter Lyla and our rescue dog Daffy. I moved back to the area three years ago to start a new chapter and love being part of the neighbourhood.

Where do you stay in London?

Claridge’s. It’s old-fashioned in the best sense: the interiors have such a sense of occasion, but never feel stuffy, the food is delicious and the spa is a wonderful retreat.

Where was your first flat?

Thurlow Place in South Kensington. It was the first corner of London to call my own and a lovely part of the city to start out in.

What was your first job?

I worked at Partridges, a delicatessen in Chelsea, slicing meat behind the counter. A rather different world from what I do now, but I love that it was a proper, hands-on job. You learn a lot about people when you’re serving them.

Where would you recommend for a first date?

Kensington Gardens. A walk is the perfect first date, because you needn’t sit opposite someone while trying to think of something to say. There are benches if you get on brilliantly, cafés if you want to extend the date and escape routes if you don’t. Which shops do you rely on? Dover Street Market when I want to see fashion pushing boundaries and Liberty for its extraordinary mix of British designers and beautiful fabrics. Of course, I love seeing the Trinny London counter, too...

What’s the best meal you’ve had?

Some of my favourite meals are the ones where my daughter Lyla and her brother Zak decide to take me somewhere that they’re desperate to try. The condition is that I’m usually picking up the tab.

If Woodall was Mayor for the day, she would welcome dogs “in every shop”

Have you ever had a run-in with a London police officer?

There may have been a minor speeding incident…

What would you do if you were Mayor for the day?

Dogs would be welcome in every shop and restaurant. When people spend their working week away from their four-legged friends, they want to bring them along at the weekend.

Who is the most iconic Londoner?

Samuel Pepys. I’m fascinated by how he documented his everyday life in such detail. His 17th-century diaries give a window into London as it really was then, not some polished version of history. You get the politics, the gossip and the personal dramas.

What are you up to for work?

I’m busy taking Trinny London into its next chapter. We’ve recently launched Fearless skin tint drops, designed to give invisible, skin-like coverage while addressing the changing needs of women over 40, and Take Back Time overnight hand transformation, which gives our hands the same attention and care we give our faces.

Where do you let your hair down?

I love driving around London with my daughter when the sun is shining, playing loud music and enjoying being together. I love the city’s energy.

What’s the best thing a cabbie has ever said to you?

There’s something about sitting in the back of a cab that makes you open up. I’ve told some drivers things that even my sister or my best friend don’t know.

What’s your London secret?

The little sculpted nose on the wall inside Admiralty Arch on the Mall. It’s a wonderful detail in such a grand, historic setting. You could easily walk past without noticing it.

What’s your favourite work of art?

The Baptism of Christ by Piero della Francesca at the National Gallery. I’ve always been drawn to the stillness and clarity of his work. There’s something about the way he uses colour, light and composition that makes you want to keep looking.

Who’s your hero?

Amelia Earhart. She was a fearless woman in a male-dominated world and I’ve always admired her determination to challenge expectations and push boundaries.

What’s your favourite London beauty spot?

It’s got to be Hershesons, where I book in with Ryan Wilkes. I love him.

Do you have any beauty practitioners that you rely on?

I see Edy London for my lashes and Nisha Patel for my brows. Nisha’s precision is second to none!
