Nicola Peltz is set to receive a rising star award during the Venice Film Festival, despite working as an actor for 20 years.

The 31-year-old will receive the honour at the Kinéo Awards, which is marking its 25th anniversary next month.

The honour recognises her work as an actress, producer and emerging filmmaker. It notes on a citation that the actor began acting as a child 20 years ago.

Peltz’s first role was in 2006’s Deck the Halls, and she has gone on to star in The Last Airbender, Bates Motel and the Transformers series.

In 2024, she wrote, directed and starred in Lola, a film about an exotic dancer who attempts to save her young brother from an abusive home.

Issuing the honour, the awards said that “in recent years, the American actress, screenwriter and producer has attracted growing international attention through increasingly multifaceted roles, both in front of and behind the camera”.

Peltz previously wrote, directed and starred in Lola, and will be honoured alongside Oscar winner Faye Dunaway, who is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 31-year-old who is married to Brooklyn Beckham, is being honoured alongside veteran actor Faye Dunaway, whose breakout role came in 1967’s Bonnie and Clyde.

Dunaway, who won an Oscar for Best Actress for 1976’s Network, will receive a lifetime achievement award.

The acclaimed actor will star alongside Peltz in the 31-year-old’s upcoming film Prima, which is about a dedicated baller (Peltz) and her strict grandmother (Dunaway).

The Kinéo Awards take place during the Venice Film Festival, but they are not an official Venice Film Festival award.

Some users online expressed confusion as to whether Peltz met the requirements for the “Rising Star” award.

“Rising for 20 years she must be in orbit by now,” said one, whilst another said, “It's taken her 20 years to be recognised as a rising star!!!”

Sharing the news, Beckham posted a screenshot of the announcement with the caption: “Wow so proud. Can’t wait to celebrate you,” with a love heart emoji.

Earlier this week, Beckham issued a furious response to an online troll who body-shamed Peltz.

On Tuesday 25 August, Brooklyn shared his latest cooking video to Instagram, where he showed his followers how he made a cottage pie.

In the comment section, one commenter made a dig about Peltz, claiming that he never responded to his “concerned” followers about how “sickly” the Lola star looked. “She puts herself out there, feed her,” they wrote.

Beckham immediately shot back: “Don’t ever talk about my wife. She’s absolutely beautiful and you should never comment on a woman’s body. It’s disgraceful.”

Both comments have since been deleted.
