Today is the last day of festivities at Notting Hill Carnival. Hundreds of thousands of revellers will begin making their way to W10 for the Adult’s Parade - which is set to kick off at 10:30am.

The sound systems will be keeping the streets alive inside the Carnival zone from noon, while food vendors are already lining the streets to refuel paraders.

There were 169 arrests made on Family Day yesterday at Notting Hill Carnival.

The Met Police said in spite of the arrests, the mood was “overwhelmingly positive and celebratory”.

There was a palpable police presence at the Carnival on Sunday, with some 7,000 officers deployed across W10.

The Met also deployed metal detectors and live facial recognition technology across the Carnival’s footprint.

At 3pm, there will be a 72-second silence to honour the lives lost in the Grenfell fire in 2017.

Yesterday’s silence was marred after a float missed the silence and continued to play music as it sailed past the North Kensington Fire Station.

The Adult’s Parade is here! This truly is the height of carnival. Bands will make their way around the route for the final time, showcasing the stunning costumes they’ve spent months preparing.

Mas, derived from masquerade, is just one of the carnival arts you can expect to see today. It’s the art of large, elaborate, sculptural costumes, used to defy oppression and colonialism.

Today, it takes on many forms. While some bands choose to create costumes with hidden meanings and stories, others lean towards bikini mas - a modern style of costume making that comprises embellished bikinis and feather backpacks.

Notting Hill Carnival can be a pain to navigate if you’ve never been before or don’t have signal.

There are several entry points to Notting Hill Carnival, with the closest Tube stations being Ladbroke Grove, Westbourne Park, Notting Hill Gate, Latimer Road, Royal Oak, and Queensway.

But these stations are likely to be very busy and TfL is likely to make several of these exit-only (or close them altogether) as crowds flock to the carnival.

Your best bet is to walk from a station located slightly further afield, like Maida Vale, Kensal Green, Shepherd’s Bush, or Paddington.

Bus routes do not run inside the Carnival zone, but TfL does operate special, express buses that drop you off right outside the boundary.

Remember that there are planned closures on the Northern line and DLR today too.

You might believe that Notting Hill Carnival is just a celebratory street party. And you wouldn’t be entirely wrong.

But this event, now in its 60th year, is so much more. The carnival was born out of resistance to racial injustices, oppression, and deprivation.
