Parents share footage of their terrified daughter, 8, choking to death on food in school cafeteria as they claim that not enough was done to save her

The parents of an eight-year-old girl who choked to death at school have shared harrowing surveillance footage of her final moments in the cafeteria.

In video from April 15, Adrian Thompson is seen running up to an employee at the school while struggling to breathe, before bolting down the corridors in a panic.

Her parents have shared the footage from Velma Penny Elementary School in Lindale, east Texas, to demand answers about why staff didn't do more to help.

Texas Rangers previously cleared Velma Penny staff of wrongdoing and no charges were ever brought.

'We feel like people need to know about this,' her mother, Anna Thompson told KHOU 11.

The footage shows Adrian getting up from her lunch table at 11.40am while coughing into a napkin with her hands close to her throat.

Seconds later, she approached a woman, who has not been named, and tapped her on the arm.

According to the Texas Rangers report on the incident, the employee believed the eight-year-old was sick, and guided her to a trash can.

The report states that the woman then asked Adrian 'if she wanted to go to the restroom', and the little girl indicated that she did.

In response, the staff member sent Adrian out of the cafeteria through the double doors, as outlined in the Texas Rangers report.

However, the report does not include what happens next.

The surveillance footage shows Adrian returning to the cafeteria just 13 seconds later and imploring the same employee for help.

Visibly distressed, Adrian approached the woman while waving her arms in a panic.

The adult appeared to usher her towards the exit, and followed behind as Adrian again left the cafeteria.

Surveillance footage from the corridors shows Adrian sprinting to the nurse's office.

The Texas Rangers report said Adrian ran up to the nurse while 'pointing to her mouth and trying to speak'. Adrian then 'began turning blue in the face', per the report.

The nurse said she performed the Heimlich maneuver on Adrian, but she collapsed. She then checked for a pulse and began performing CPR on the child.

There is no surveillance from inside the nurse's office showing Adrian's collapse.

Troubling video from the school entrance shows medics performing chest compressions on Adrian as she is wheeled out of the building at 11.55am.

She was rushed to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, where she died during the early hours of April 16.

Her parents have launched a fundraiser to cover the medical bills involved in Adrian's emergency care, including a life flight to Dallas as medics attempted to save her life.

'Our daughter, Adrian, passed away on 4/15,' they wrote on the fundraising page.

'She was eight years old. We are heartbroken. She was loved beyond words, and our lives will never be the same'.

The Daily Mail has approached Velma Penny Elementary School for comment.
