Lindsay Clancy’s ex-husband Patrick Clancy has revealed that he is ‘starting a family’ with his new wife, Rachel Danis.
Patrick was married to Lindsay, a former labour and delivery nurse, for six years, before she killed their three kids, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months, in January 2023.
For much of the summer, Lindsay was on trial for strangling the children with exercise resistance bands in the basement of their Duxbury, Massachusetts home.
While Lindsay has never denied the killings, her defence claimed she was in a state of postpartum psychosis when the crimes took place and was not criminally responsible for her actions.
However, the case ended in a mistrial earlier this month, after one holdout juror refused to find Lindsay not guilty by reason of insanity.
Now, in Patrick’s first interview since his testimony and the mistrial, the father has shared his ambitions to have more children — all while honouring Cora, Dawson and Callan.
Patrick was joined by Rachel, whom he married in New York City in April this year, on the CBS show, 60 Minutes.
Rachel, a fertility doctor who met Patrick at a run club, answered first, replying, ‘yeah,’ with a smile and nod.
The couple also said they plan to tell their child about Patrick’s late children.
‘I think every parent can agree, you have different relationships with your kids, but they’re all your kids,’ Patrick said. ‘And I can’t wait to tell them about their brothers and sister.’
Patrick also revealed in the interview that after finding his children in the basement, shortly after discovering Lindsay had self-harmed and jumped from a second-storey window, he prayed Callan might survive when he was found to still have a heartbeat.
The eight-month-old was airlifted to a Boston hospital after Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead at home. At the time, Patrick said he was told doctors were able to re-establish a heartbeat.
‘That night, I really thought there was a chance that Callan would live,’ he said in the interview.
‘And I remember just thinking: just give me one. Just give me one kid. And I would raise him as best I could. I would give him the best life I possibly could. I’d tell him about his brother and sister. And I was holding out hope for that.’
Patrick continued, recalling that when he got to the hospital, he saw the doctor’s face, and instantly ‘knew it wasn’t going to be a good prognosis.’
He spent four days with Callan at the hospital, which Patrick said he was ‘grateful’ for. He said he was able to lie next to the infant and hold him, and his son died in his arms.
Rachel described Patrick as a ‘selfless father,’ and said that she ‘always [tries] to take some of the weight from Pat.’
She said: ‘I know I can’t fix — I can’t bring his kids back, but if I can honour them and allow Pat to grieve but also just continue to honour them in the present, I guess that’s all I can do.’
Elsewhere in the special, Patrick opened up about forgiving his ex-wife for the deaths of their children.
He spoke about the public statement of support he issued shortly after the deaths, describing Lindsay as kind and loving. Plus, how Lindsay recounted the killings.
‘She said it was like a dream. And she remembered it much in the way you would remember after waking up,’ Patrick said.
When Ross Douthat asked if Lindsay had ever asked for Patrick’s forgiveness, he said: ‘No. But I gave it to her.’
This led to Patrick shutting down online vitriol that Lindsay was a ‘monster’ and a ‘killer mom,’ and that he ‘believe[d] that it was her mental illness that caused’ his children’s deaths.
Patrick also touched on the ‘dangerous’ conspiracy theories surrounding the trial, including true crime fanatics and internet sleuths who accused him of the murders.
‘It’s deeply harmful to the legacy of my children,’ Patrick said, adding: ‘It is a huge distraction from what really matters here, which is perinatal mental health, and it’s done real harm to real people.’
Patrick also called the conspiracy theories ‘painful to see,’ and said they make it ‘difficult’ for him to be out in public.
‘And it’s possible that some of those people, after seeing lie after lie after lie, they start to believe it. And that’s what we’re left with.’
Lindsay’s defence attorney, Kevin Reddington, previously spoke out about the accusations, too.
Speaking on NBC News, the attorney said: ‘It’s readily apparent that Patrick has been set upon and his life has been turned upside down into a nightmare that he doesn’t deserve. Period. Full stop.’
Patrick’s own attorney rejected the ‘so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists who have published what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims.’
‘Every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable, including legally,’ the lawyer concluded.
Lindsay and Patrick both filed lawsuits over their children’s deaths. Lindsay’s was filed in January and accuses her mental health care providers of failing to diagnose her with bipolar disorder. It also blames them for prescribing her copious pharmaceuticals that allegedly triggered a psychotic episode.
Patrick’s raised similar claims against some of her providers in a wrongful death lawsuit.
