A priceless globe used by a US President and former Allied Supreme Commander has been shattered after Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth tried to move it to his office.
Shocking photos show the pre-World War Two globe owned by President Dwight D. Eisenhower severely damaged.
Hegseth wanted the globe moved to his office, but staff botched the transfer while trying to move it.
Army officials admitted to The Washington Post that the 30-inch globe, which was used to help plan the D-Day landings in the Second World War, suffered damage.
A spokesperson said: ‘The spherical portion of the globe was detached from the metal mounting that allows it to rotate.’

A spokesperson for the Department of War said: ‘An accident occurred while staff were transporting a replica of the Eisenhower globe as part of its relocation.
‘Accidents happen; we are grateful no one was harmed, and the globe is being repaired. It is unsurprising that the Washington Post is once again dedicating time to another inconsequential non-story.’
Hegseth is known for his interest in military history, having previously moved two other artefacts to his office.
His vow to bring back a so-called ‘warrior ethos’ to the US Military has raised a few eyebrows.
Earlier this month, Hegseth went on a rant about ‘wokeness’ within the army and vowed to rid it of ‘fatties’ and transgender people.
Speaking to Marine Corps members in Quantico, Virginia, Pete Hegseth said 20% of top military leaders have been fired as he looks to introduce a new ‘warrior’ ethos.
‘We are no longer the woke department or the weak department,’ he rambled.
‘No fatties, no trannies, no beardos, no weirdos, no wimps, no radicals. Just warriors.’
Since taking up his position as Secretary of Defence, Hegseth has changed the agency’s name to the ‘Department of War’ and placed a major focus on Christian nationalism.
He’s also known for his aggressive tactics towards the press who question ongoing military operations in Iran.
Earlier this year, Hegseth told reporters that the entire world ‘should be saying thank you’ to Trump and claimed the Iran War has been a success.
