Detectives are pleading for information over the “unexplained” death of a woman at her home in South London.

Police became concerned for the welfare of 60-year-old Nicole Beling after a family member reported her missing at around 12.05am on Friday, July 17.

Ms Beling was graded as a high-risk missing person and officers visited her home in Dittoncroft Close, Croydon, later that morning to investigate her disappearance.

Following a search of the property, officers discovered a woman's body.

The body has been formally identified as that of Ms Beling and her family are being supported by specialist officers.

A 61-year-old man was arrested at the scene on Friday, July 17, on suspicion of murder and later released under investigation. He was further arrested on Saturday, August 1, and has been bailed while inquiries continue.

The Met Police states that at this time, Ms Beling’s death is being treated as unexplained. Her cause of death remains under investigation.

Inquiries into the circumstances of her death continue and are being led by specialist officers from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who is leading the investigation, said: “A formal murder investigation has not been launched at this time and we are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances surrounding Nicole’s sad death.

“We want to hear from anyone who knew Nicole or may have information that could assist the investigation – and help us find answers for her family.

“My thoughts remain with Nicole’s family and loved ones.”
