Police have named a pedestrian who died after being hit by a car in Grangemouth last week.

Sean McGinley, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene on Newlands Road after being struck by a Ford Fiesta at 23:15 last Monday.

Officers had been trying to establish his identity and had appealed for witnesses to the incident.

The 35-year-old male driver of the car was taken to hospital as a precaution and arrested. He was later released.

Police Scotland is appealing for further witnesses who may have stopped prior to officers arriving on the scene to come forward.

Sgt Michael Shillington said: "We know there were a number of witnesses who assisted at the scene prior to emergency services attending.

"Specifically, we're keen to hear from two people who we believed stopped behind the Fiesta following the crash and spoke with the driver.

"I would also ask anyone who was in the area and many have dash cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to contact us."
