A police officer was headbutted and left with a "significant facial injury" during the arrest of a man in Londonderry.
Officers were responding to a disturbance at a flat on Abercorn Road at about 22:40 BST.
As the suspect was in a police vehicle having his seatbelt put on, he headbutted an officer and kicked him multiple times. The officer remained on duty but sustained bruising and swelling to his eye and is now receiving welfare support.
A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, threats to kill and possession of a Class A controlled drug, as well as assault on police.
'Stark reminder of dangers'
Two knives and a quantity of suspected Class A controlled drugs were found at the apartment following a search.
Supt Sinead McIldowney said: "Our officers put themselves on the front line to help keep people safe.
"They do not deserve to be assaulted for simply doing their job, and this incident is a stark reminder of the dangers they can face."
