A popular Chinatown restaurant has announced its closure after nearly two decades of trading in Soho.

Cafe TPT on Wardour Street announced that it would be closing its doors for the final time on October 27.

A reason for the closure was not provided by the restaurant.

In an Instagram post, the restaurant wrote: “For the past couple of decades, it has been our absolute privilege to welcome you through our doors and to be a small part of your lives.

“Over the years, many of you have become more than just customers - you have shared your stories, celebrations, milestones, laughter, and everyday moments with us.

“For some you have even allowed us to be part of your own journey, and for that, we are truly humbled and deeply grateful.”

The restaurant added that it was never “just about the food”, but about the “people”, the “familiar faces”, “the friendships, the conversations, and the memories created around our tables.”

The Chinatown eatery has become renowned for its Cantonese-style cafe dishes, including roast duck and baked pork chop rice.

It also regularly served dishes inspired by Hong Kong and Malaysia, such as its famous curry laksa and noodles. Among its vast menu were also dishes from the Sichuan province and UK-Chinese classics, like sweet and sour chicken.

Dozens of diners took to social media to express their gratitude to the cafe, with one writing, that the closure was “truly a massive loss to the London dining scene.”

Another wrote: “Thanks for saving my life many many times as a student. My go to whenever I felt homesick, you’ll be missed.”
