Prince William will not appear in a TV documentary to mark the 30th anniversary of his late mother Princess Diana's death, royal sources have confirmed.
The Prince of Wales, who was 15 when his mother died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997, had been carefully considering whether to take part in any programmes.
He received several offers to make or appear in a documentary and even held private talks at Kensington Palace last week with BBC director-general Matt Brittin.
But the heir to the throne is understood to have decided against appearing in anything on screen to avoid any further conflict with his estranged brother Prince Harry.
William does not want him and Harry to be 'pitted against each other' in a film and remains 'really emotional' about Diana's death, reported The Sunday Times.
It comes after the brothers appeared together on the 20th anniversary of her death in 2017 in the ITV documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life And Legacy.
Speaking at the time before a preview at Kensington Palace – where both were living – William said that the brothers 'won't speak as openly or publicly about her again'.

William is reported to view next year's anniversary as 'a difficult situation for him', but feels that his tributes to Diana nine years ago were his public 'catharsis'.
The brothers remain estranged despite Harry's return to Britain last month – having not spoken since the time of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022.
Harry, meanwhile, is understood to have asked a number of Diana's friends and relations if they would take part in a commemorative film ahead of the milestone.
Among them is her brother Earl Spencer, who said in his new memoir about Diana that he wrote the book to avoid being a 'talking head' in productions about his sister.
Harry's potential project has not been confirmed, and the prince is understood to be weighing up different ways of commemorating Diana and her legacy.
A source close to Harry – who returned to the UK with his family on August 26 – said last week: 'The duke has discussed a number of possible projects.
'Nothing has been finalised or confirmed, and he is still considering the most meaningful way to honour his mother's legacy during this important anniversary year.'
The Daily Mail has contacted Kensington Palace for comment. A spokesman said last week: 'We wouldn't comment on how the Prince of Wales will mark the anniversary.'
