This reader 'can't see' Farage as PM
In response to Richard Farrar saying that Coventry City have more chance of doing the double than of Nigel Farage becoming prime minister (MetroTalk, Tue), I suspect that Farage does not really want the position – better to be the Brian Clough of politics; the one that got away.
I know a lot of people would like to send Farage to Coventry. I don’t have a strong opinion on him one way or the other and, like Old Big ’Ead, he is a very good orator. But PM? I can’t see it happening.

However bad things get for Reform on the dodgy payments front, it’s likely that they and Farage will stay in business. That’s because their central policy – stopping the boats – is something that resonates with British people who do not like to see their country being taken for a ride by foreign ‘gangsters’.
Detain and deport is the only policy that will make the organisers of the small boats desist from their actions.
Farage’s hypocrisy…
Despite Nigel Farage moaning about lack of free speech in the UK, a female heckler was assaulted at the Reform conference for exercising her right to free speech (MetroTalk, Mon).
Robert Jenrick responded with a ‘boo hoo’. He says the protester complaining about being ‘hit over the head’ should ‘get a life’.
They will claim the party is not racist or far right. But while Farage condemned Dover demonstrators for wearing masks, I remember him refusing to condemn far-right agitated Southampton riots and being accused of ‘giving legitimacy’ to violent protests in Stockport. It feels like there is a tacit acceptance of law-breaking as long as you are white. A Lloyd, Merseyside

Regarding the anger over Reform conference attendees assaulting a protester (MetroTalk, Tue), Walter Wolfgang (aged 82) was treated similarly by Labour goons in 2005 for speaking out against the Iraq war.
‘Taxi drivers have no legal limit on how long they can
Re your story about a taxi driver falling into a ‘microsleep’ and causing a crash, resulting in the death of Philip Dray (Metro, Wed), it may surprise people to learn that taxi drivers – unlike bus, lorry or train drivers – have no legal limits on how long they can work without a break.
It must be all too tempting for independent cab drivers to work for much longer than is safe if they’re short on money (and who isn’t?).
Philip Dray likely won’t have been the first person killed by a taxi driver asleep at the wheel. And, unless we put laws in place to limit cabbies’ working hours, he likely won’t be the last.
Reader condemns ‘vanity procedures abroad’
How many more people have to die or suffer serious health issues after undergoing vanity procedures abroad? The latest is Igho Ubiribo, who died after a penis enlargement procedure in Thailand (metro.co.uk, Sun).
I understand people having treatment which is necessary, such as dental care, but needless cosmetic enhancements all too often lead to tragedies.
And when there are complications, the taxpayer-funded NHS has to foot the bill. Robert Boston, Kent
