Retired golfer Bernard Gallacher was at Southwark Crown Court on Monday morning amid Russel Brand’s ongoing rape trial.

Gallacher accompanied his daughter Laura, 39, and son-in-law Brand and was pictured by reporters before heading inside.

The Ryder Cup winner was spotted putting his hands on his daughter’s back as they exited a silver Mercedes and walked towards the steps on Monday morning.

Gallacher sat next to his daughter in the public gallery as Brand’s lawyer Ian Winter KC started to deliver his closing speech.

The 77-year-old, who is also the father of sports presenter Kirsty Gallacher, played in eight Ryder Cups and captained the European team three times. He is originally from Bathgate, West Lothian, in Scotland.

Russel Brand’s rape trial continues

Comedian Brand, 51, faces allegations that he attacked women in a hotel room, at his luxury London home, in their workplaces, and in a Soho bar toilet.

The allegations, made by six female complainants, span a 10-year period between 1999 and 2009.

He denies seven criminal charges: three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of attempted indecent assault.

Brand’s wife attended the court on several occasions and on Thursday gave evidence in which she described Brand as “caring” and “kind” and said that honesty is at the centre of their marriage.

Jurors were told that the pair had started dating in 2007 but broke up during the summer that year, with her telling the court she was “very aware” of his promiscuity.

They got back together again as a couple in 2015, married in 2017, and now share three children, the court heard.

Gallacher sat in the back of the courtroom on Monday while Mr Winter delivered his speech, telling jurors that allegations of sexual conduct in 2023 “poisoned the wells” of justice. The trial broke for lunch and will resume after 2pm, where Mr Winter will continue his closing speech.

The persecution is due to finish on Tuesday morning.
