According to Spanish media, a motorbike collided with the side of a car being driven by showjumper Scott Brash in Valencia on Thursday 8 October.
The 20-year-old who was riding the motorbike died at the scene.
Brash, 40, won gold medals in the team jumping events at both the 2012 and 2024 Olympics.
Spanish police have not released the names of the car passengers or the dead motorcyclist but it has been widely reported by a number of outlets that Brash was the driver.

A spokesperson for the Civil Guard in Valencia said: "The accident occurred just before 8pm on Thursday on the N-322 road in the municipality of Oliva.
"A motorbike collided with the side of a car. The motorbike rider, a 20-year-old Spanish national, died at the scene.
