A section of the M25 in Surrey has closed and will remain shut throughout the busy morning period due to a crash, highway officials say.

The anti-clockwise section of the motorway is closed between junction 10 (Wisley) and junction 11 (Chertsey) following the collision which happened just before midnight.

National Highways said police had completed their investigations at the scene at about 06:00 BST, but warned motorists to avoid the motorway for most of the morning.

"The incident scene is now being cleared but this is likely to take several hours and the closure will remain through the morning peak travel period," they said.

According to travel site Inrix, congestion is stretching to junction 13 (Staines), with queues diverting via Byfleet to the A3 at Cobham.

National Highways advise drivers to follow the Hollow Square route.

Motorists are to leave the M25 at junction 11 and following the A320 through Woking and Ottershaw, before joining the A245 towards Cobham and reconnecting with the motorway at Junction 10 via the A3.
