Shop worker ‘threatened by man brandishing giant machete’

Police are looking for a man after a shopkeeper was threatened with a huge machete.

The suspect entered the Gastronom Natali shop in Derby just after 8pm on Tuesday, demanding the shop worker hand over some money before pulling out the large bladed weapon.

CCTV then shows him stealing cash before making a quick getaway on an e-bike.

The robber was described as a young, white man and about 5ft 7ins tall.

He was shown wearing a black bandana, a hat with a camouflage pattern, black jogging bottoms and a black hoodie with several logos on the chest and sleeve.

The hoodie also had white and yellow symbols on the back and a white ring around the outside of the hood.

Officers found clothing and a machete which appeared similar to the weapon held by the suspect in a park two days after the incident.

Police have launched an appeal on hope that someone may recognise the man from his distinctive clothes.

They are also looking to hear from anyone who knows someone who has recently discarded clothing matching the description.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said: ‘We understand an incident of this nature may be concerning to business owners and residents.

‘Officers have been out patrolling the area and making extensive enquiries.
