With Halloween fast approaching, some of this year’s creepiest sights can be found lurking millions of light-years away in space.

A collection of spooky cosmic images has been shared by NASA Universe ahead of October 31, featuring everything from ghostly eyes to a screaming skull.

Four of the pictures appear to show mysterious eyes staring straight back at us.

‘Do you ever get the feeling you’re being watched?’ NASA Universe said.

‘Even though all of these cosmic objects are millions of light-years away, they can still send shivers down our spines when we find them staring back at us.’

A gallery compiled by content agency SWNS also features some seriously bizarre sights from across the universe.

Do you ever get the feeling that you're being watched? This friendly-looking object is the result of two galaxies merging into one another, complete with a pair of eyes hiding two growing supermassive black holes and a swirling grin. Such mergers are rare in our galactic neighbourhood; Mrk 739 is close enough (astronomically speaking) to study the event in detail, and thus gain a better understanding of the dramatic processes that take place during these cosmic mergers. // Skull shapes and ghostly eyes are among a gallery of Halloween-themed spooky space sightings. Among them is an image of the Sun which looks remarkably like a grinning Halloween pumpkin, with swirling plasma creating shapes resembling two eyes and a mouth.

Another shows what appears to be a screaming skull in the Perseus Cluster, while a huge red eye-like shape can be seen as the planet Fomalhaut b orbits its parent star.

And it seems even Mars is getting in on the spooky season, with one image appearing to show a gigantic face staring out from the planet’s surface.
