The Spice Girls have posted an apparent callout for fans of theirs who can “sing and dance”.

A cryptic video was shared on the pop group’s Instagram page which featured a newspaper ad from The Stage, the same trade paper that advertised for an all-female group in 1994 that became the Spice Girls.

The paper was placed on the stairs featured in their Wannabe music video in 1996.

The ad read: “R U a Spice Girls fan with the ability to sing and dance?

“R U a superfan, a collector, a music lover?

“Spice Girls are a widely successful, global, choreographed, singing/dancing all female pop act with a record nine number ones in the UK and over 100 million global sales.

“Thursday 10th September at 2 o’clock BST.

“No sheet music required. But you will need a vinyl or CD player.”

The Spice Girls are made up of Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell-Horner.

The group shot to global fame after the release of their debut single Wannabe in 1996, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year.

The award-winning group also produced hits such as Stop, 2 Become 1, Who Do You Think You Are? and Viva Forever, amassing nine UK number one singles and two chart-topping albums.

Halliwell-Horner left the band in 1998, citing “differences between us”, and in December 2000 the rest of the group went their separate ways, announcing an indefinite hiatus.

They reunited in 2012 for the closing ceremony of the London Summer Olympics and in 2019 for their Spice World tour, but have since been the subject of speculation about a return to the stage.
