Squeeze’s Glenn Tilbrook says band’s next album is ‘maybe our last’

Squeeze singer-songwriter Glenn Tilbrook has said his band’s next album will be “maybe our last”.
The 69-year-old, who founded the new wave band with fellow songwriter and guitarist Chris Difford, confirmed Squeeze were working on a record to follow up their most recent album, Trixies, which was released earlier this year.
Tilbrook told the Press Association: “It’s going to be very different to Trixies, and I sense this will be the bookends of our career, from what could have been our first album (Trixies was written in 1974) to what may be our last.

“I think there’s plenty of life in in Squeeze yet, I don’t know how many more records we’ve got (left in us)…
“I view the work we’ve done since 2020 as being absolutely amazing for the band, it takes a lot of effort to get a record right, and we’ve put a ton of effort in.
“So by the time the next record is out, I think we’ll be taking stock of where we are.”
The band are heading out on the Tried, Tested And Trixies Tour in the UK in November, having performed dates in the US, with stops in Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff, London and Swansea, where they will be supported by Billy Bragg.

Tilbrook said: “We’ll mix things up a bit, but you know, we’ve been playing in America, we were playing 10 or 11 songs from Trixies, and the audiences like it.
“It’s a different thing, we prepare them for it and they listen respectfully, and the reaction we get at the end of that section of the show is incredible.”
Squeeze, whose members included Jools Holland from 1975 to 1980 and from 1985 to 1990, have had three UK top 10 singles and three UK top 10 albums, with their best known songs including Cool For Cats, Up The Junction and Labelled With Love.
Tickets for the Tried, Tested And Trixies Tour are on sale from the band’s website now.
