Steven Daniel has appeared in court in Glasgow charged in connection with serious and organised crime and drugs offences.

He was arrested in an early morning raid as part of Operation Venetic, a major UK-wide operation that has dismantled several gangs.

Daniel, 46, was taken into custody at about 06:00 on Wednesday from his home in Robroyston in the north of Glasgow.

Members of the Daniel family have been engaged in a violent gangland feud with the rival Lyons clan for 25 years.

Daniel made no plea at Glasgow Sheriff Court to four charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act and another charge under the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act.

He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in court again next week.

A second man, Steven Gordon, 38, also made no plea to charges at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

He was arrested on Wednesday in a simultaneous Police Scotland operation four miles away in the city's Garthamlock area.

Police Scotland Assistant Chief Constable Dave Ferry said: "We will continue to take strong action and to use every tool and tactic available to relentlessly pursue those involved in serious criminality who seek to profit from the harm and misery they cause to communities in Scotland."

More than 60 arrests have now been made since 2020 as part of the Scottish arm of Operation Venetic.

The arrests were made after the National Crime Agency penetrated a secret communications system used by criminals.

The operation was reported to have been "unprecedented" in scale and success.
