A dog stolen as a 10-week-old puppy has been reunited with her owner, just over a year after she was taken away.

Springer spaniel Breeze was out on a walk with her owner Adam at Stratfield Saye, Hampshire, in August 2025 when the thieves struck.

She was left abandoned earlier this month with a severe eye injury close to the Thames Water treatment site at Shurlock Row in Berkshire, about 20 miles (32 km) from where she was stolen.

Now 15 months old, Breeze is recovering at home, but had to have an eye removed after her mistreatment.

The RSPCA's animal rescue officer Sam Matthews called Adam after Breeze was reported by a Thames Water worker who had spotted she had been abandoned and looked "terrified" on 13 September.

Breeze's owners were identified by her microchip and after Adam had earlier reported her as stolen.

"A car pulled up and I noticed someone jump in and speed off, tooting the horn at me almost as if to goad me. I knew she'd been taken," he said.

"I never thought I'd see her again."

Her eye injury needed immediate attention and she was taken to vets.

She had no other injuries to her body, so it is thought she was hit hard around the head, which ruptured her eye.

Adam said it was believed that rather than seeking treatment by a vet, who would have found she was stolen by scanning her microchip, the thieves dumped her.

"Her tail is wagging and she seems to be happy to be home with us and our other dogs," he said, adding that his daughter Clemmie was "thrilled to have her home".

"I'd seen some posts on social media about an injured spaniel on the loose in Berkshire but I'd thought nothing of it and I didn't even know what Breeze looked like as an adult.

"When the RSPCA called me I couldn't believe it; it's amazing to have her home."
