Swimming pool water used to tackle thatched roof fire

Orange flames and dark smoke come from a thatched roof building at night. Firefighters with hoses and ladders are nearby.

Firefighters used water from a swimming pool to tackle a blaze on a thatched roof.

Crews had to shuttle water to the scene from a nearby swimming pool and other open water sources due to "a difficult water supply".

Group manager Scott Ford said: "Crews have worked exceptionally well throughout the night to extinguish the fire and will remain on scene until the afternoon to remove the rest of the thatch from the roof."

An investigation into the cause of the fire is planned once the scene is safe to access.
