Let's face it, there's nothing better than a good wedding - and when a celebrity, royal, or member of high society, get hitched, we can't wait for a pry at what the bride wore.

Unfortunately, more often than not, stars fail to impress as they indulge in bizarre out-there gowns or eye-catching, daring attire not fit for a ceremony.

However, every once in a while, a famous face makes the perfect choice - and last week, billionaire dynasty heiress Isabel Getty's white skirt suit by designer Paula Nadal, £933 and bright cobalt blue heels from Manolo Blahnik for her London nuptials were the talk of the town.

The former Tatler cover star, 32, who is the great-granddaughter of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, once the world’s richest man with an estimated fortune of $6billion, tied the knot with British financier Faris McKinnon at Chelsea Old Town Hall.

Isabel, a London-based gallery owner and singer, opted for a fitted white jacket with fringed edging and a matching mini skirt, teamed with a white pillbox-style hat and pointed cobalt blue heels from Manolo Blahnik.

Her look was dubbed one of the 'most stylish' - and saw the socialite join a prestigious list of famous brides who actually got their wedding dress right.

Others who impressed with their gowns include the Princess of Wales, Grace Kelly and Princess Beatrice.

Billionaire dynasty heiress Isabel Getty tied the knot with British financier Faris McKinnon in a stylish London ceremony last week and looked resplendent in a white skirt suit and bright cobalt blue heels for the occasion.

The wedding marks a happy new chapter for Isabel, 32 – the great-granddaughter of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, once the world’s richest man with an estimated fortune of $6billion – whose family has endured a string of tragedies.

Former Tatler cover star Isabel tied the knot with Faris, 41, at Chelsea Old Town Hall before celebrating with friends and family at Harry's Bar, an exclusive private members' club in Mayfair.

For the ceremony, Isabel opted for a fitted white jacket with fringed edging and a matching short skirt, teamed with a white pillbox-style hat and pointed cobalt blue heels. Faris wore a blue double-breasted suit and a patterned tie.

Their young son was part of proceedings too, with Faris carrying Viggo as the couple emerged from the town hall.

Friends and relatives gathered on the steps beneath a large floral arch and showered them with white confetti and red petals, while Isabel carried a bouquet of pink, peach and lilac flowers.

The newlyweds then left in a vintage black Rolls-Royce convertible, while their guests were ferried to the reception on a privately hired red Routemaster bus.

Celebrations continued at Harry's Bar, where long dining tables were dressed with pink flowers and guests were handed instant cameras to snap photos of the day.

When actress Grace Kelly married Prince Rainer III of Monaco at Saint Nicholas Cathedral in April 1956, her gown, designed by American costume designer Helen Rose, incorporated subtle details of lace that felt fitting and authentic.

The high-neck, long-sleeved bodice was crafted from antique Brussels lace, adorned with hand-sewn pearls, and flowed into a nine-foot silk taffeta train.

Her ethereal veil, made from 90 yards (82 metres) of tulle, was carefully designed so her face remained visible to cameras, edged with lace appliqué that included a pair of lovebirds – a subtle symbol of devotion.

More than six decades later, the look remains iconic, setting a benchmark for bridal elegance and inspiring generations of royal brides to come.

When Kate Middleton tied the knot with Prince William at London's Westminster Abbey in 2011, the soon-to-be princess stepped out in a glamorous £250,000 Alexander McQueen gown with a Victorian-style corset.

The back of the gown, which had a modest train, of just over two metres, was finished with 58 gazar and organza covered buttons finished by Rouleau loops.

But in-keeping with Lisa's advise not to overdo it on the lace, Catherine's gown only featured delicate hand-applied lace along the sleeves, bodice, hem of the skirt and at the edge of her nine-foot train.

The lace was created by the Royal School of Needlework, which cut individual flowers – the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock, to represent each of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom – from antique lace and appliqued them onto ivory silk tulle.

Grace Kelly's piece still influences designers today, including Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, who created the wedding dress worn by Kate Middleton at her marriage to Prince William in 2011.

With its extravagant train, lace collared V-neck bodice and long lace sleeves, the dress hit just the right note of class and haute-couture for a royal wedding, and came in second place with voters.

Princess Beatrice tied the knot with millionaire property developer Edo Mapelli Mozzi on May 29, 2020,  at the Chapel Royal in St James's Palace in front of 150 guests.

In a touching tribute to her grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, Beatrice wore a dress designed by Norman Hartnell, which Her Majesty had first worn for a state dinner in Rome in 1961 and in London a year later, at the world film premiere of Lawrence Of Arabia.

The vintage gown was carefully remodelled for Beatrice by the Queen's dresser Angela Kelly and designer Stewart Parvin.

The gown by Norman Hartnell was made from peau de soie taffeta and organza, trimmed with duchess satin and encrusted with diamanté.

Angela Kelly and Stewart Parvin softened the full-skirted silhouette to create a more contemporary shape, and recreated the underskirt and petticoats, bound with silk tulle.

Beatrice's dress was altered in order to comply with the regulations of the place of worship. Short sleeves of triple organza were added to the straps and embroidered with vintage crystals to match the original design.

The princess also wore the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara, which Her Majesty also wore the day she married Prince Philip in 1947. The tiara was originally made for Queen Mary by Garrard and Co in 1919, from a diamond necklace that was a wedding day gift from Queen Victoria.

Princess Iman of Jordan's custom Dior gown for her 2023 wedding to Jameel Alexander Thermiotis in 2023 perfectly showcased this influence – with the dress featuring a high illusion neckline and long sleeves with subtle hints of lace.

Delicate floral motifs adorned the collar and cuffs, paying subtle homage to the House's traditions, while the impeccable tailoring created a refined silhouette reminiscent of Grace Kelly's elegant lines.

A matching lace appliqué veil completed the ensemble, and the Princess accessorised with a sparkling diamond tiara, enhancing the gown's understated regality.

Highlighting the importance of lace used in a more intentional manner, Lisa added: 'Ultimately, lace isn't going out of fashion, but the way we wear it is evolving.

'Today's bride is looking for individuality, effortless elegance and a dress that feels authentic to her. Sometimes that means less lace, not more.'

Stacey Solomon resembled a real-life Disney princess as she married Joe Swash at Pickle Cottage in June 2022. 

The then-mother-of-four wore a long pale pink gown, with off-the-shoulder sleeves and a corsetted bodice, with a long veil and flower crown.

Her long, newly-dyed blonde tresses were styled in stunning waves and she wore a neutral palette of bridal makeup to accentuate her natural beauty.

Stacey found her dream dress in northern Irish bridal boutique Verona Bridal, located in Magherafelt, with the team travelling directly to Stacey's home for the fitting.

Three years later, Stacey opted to wear her wedding dress to the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards, which she reworked especially for the event.  

Images from Stacey's big day showed the X Factor Star beaming as she held hands with her new husband, who cut a dapper figure in a navy blue three-piece suit with a pastel green bow tie, and flower on the lapel.

Fern Maguire said 'I Do' to professional footballer Harry Maguire at a luxury 100-acre, £350-a-night 13th Century French Château in June 2022. 

For the big day, Fern wowed in a thigh-split, tulle and off-the-shoulder wedding dress with sparkling embellishments.

To add to the glamorous look, Fern opted for strappy heels with flowers around the ankle, alongside a simple white bouquet. 

Harry and Fern, who first met in 2011 at the age of 18, had officially exchanged vows a month prior to their all-out wedding, but opted to celebrate in style at the French Chateau de Varennes, which is situated amidst the country's finest vineyard.

Listed as a historic monument and made up of beautiful buildings and grounds near the south-eastern wine capital of Beaune, it goes back to the 13th Century when it was owned by the Dukes of Burgundy.

Work on the main house in Charette-Varennes started in 1730, and it has developed into one of the most splendid properties in Europe.

The England defender proposed to Fern in February 2018 during a romantic holiday to Paris and the pair waited until after the Covid-19 pandemic to walk down the aisle. 

Lawyer Amal Alamuddin has appeared on dozens of 'best-dressed' lists since she first started dating movie star George, so it was no surprise that her bespoke Oscar De la Renta, French lace wedding gown won a large chunk of the public vote.

Amal - who also dazzled in a white jumpsuit at the civil ceremony ahead of the lavish bash, chose a stunning Bardot lace dress with scalloped edging, a custom made with French lace veil, hand embroidery and pearl detailing.

On her big day, Amal was pictured being attended to by de la Renta and head tailor Raffaele Ilardo, who helped her into the gown made of ivory tulle and appliquéd with fourteen yards of Chantilly lace, its bodice hand embroidered with beading and crystals.

As her mother Baria and sister Tala watched on, it was decided the dress was so heavy that Tala's 12-year-old daughter Mia - who was Amal's only flower girl - would have to be helped in her train-carrying duties by Tala.

The dress was so gorgeous that both Baria and Tamal broke down in tears as Amal tried on the gown, Vogue reports, as de la Renta told the magazine: 'It’s the most important dress in the life of a woman.

'Any girl from any walk of life dreams of that special dress, and I try to make that dream a reality for her. Amal and I looked at a lot of evening dresses and wedding dresses together, and we discussed what she liked. That gave me the idea of what she wanted.'

The pair had a quick chat about veils - Amal debated whether she needs a shorter veil for the reception - and de la Renta told her: 'No, I think after the wedding you take off the veil altogether; you don’t need it anymore. Once you are married, you are married.'

Actress Salma Hayek tied the knot with businessman François-Henri Pinault at a civil ceremony at the 6th Arrondissement City Hall  on Valentine’s Day in 2009.

In April that year, the pair then celebrated their nuptials with a two-day spectacle in Venice - which kicked off with a masquerade ball rehearsal dinner at the Punta della Dogana. Guest to the ball wore gold and black masks.

The groom’s family had purchased the old building in 2007 and paid for its restoration. In June 2009, it reopened to the public as an art museum featuring temporary exhibits from the Pinault Collection.

The ceremony took place in the La Fenice Opera House, one of the oldest in Europe. Also taking part were the groom’s children from his first marriage and the couple’s daughter. 

Those attending the wedding included Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Charlize Theron, Lily Cole, Ashley Judd, Woody Harrelson, Anna Wintour, Bono, David Blaine, Jacques Chirac and other celebrities.

The reception was held in the Palazzo Grassi, a significant location for the pair as they first met in 2006 at a gala there. The Pinault family purchased the building in May 2005. The couple got engaged in 2007 and their daughter was born in September of that year.

Model Daisy Lowe, 36, stunned in a custom Vivienne Westwood Couture gown for her nuptials with long-term partner Jordan Saul in June last year. 

Daisy and her estate agent love said 'I do' in an idyllic, pink-themed ceremony in front of their family and showbiz pals, on what was the couple's fifth anniversary.

Speaking to British Vogue about her wedding dress, Daisy - who has walked many times for the designer amid her modelling career - shared: 'When I put it on, I just lit up from the inside out... It’s very fitting that I will be wearing her gown for my special day.'

Daisy completed her bridal look with a Lulu Guinness shell bag, crystal-dotted Jimmy Choos and a tennis bracelet by The Vault London, while she added a special touch with vintage diamond studded earrings - which her grandfather gifted her grandmother 60 years ago.

Meanwhile, groom Jordan looked dapper in a black tuxedo by Richard James, with her further nod to her grandfather seeing as it was his favourite brand.

Daisy noted that it was a 'a lovely way to include him' on their special day. Her beloved grandparent Eddie Davis, 82, died from a heart attack in 2016.

For Daisy's evening look, Daisy slipped into a lace bodice and a draped miniskirt by Annie’s Ibiza, while opting for comfort as she swapped her designer heels for a pair of white Dior combat boots.

And the famous brides who should have said NO to the dress...

Rivals star Emily Atack married scientist Alistair Garner in an intimate family wedding last month.

The bride opted for a £2,325 Josephine Scott dress that had long sleeves with lace cuffs and a plunging neckline that runs the risk of becoming a 'focal point that some may be uncomfortable' with.

Rochelle explained: 'It could be difficult to pull that look off and could create a focal point that someone might not be comfortable with.

'You would need to feel really comfortable to wear that kind of style without having to keep adjusting it on your wedding day.'

Announcing their wedding, Emily, 36, wrote on Instagram: 'Yesterday we officially got married among close family and friends. It was absolutely perfect.

'I can't believe we get to do all that again in a few weeks' time. Christ, we have fun don't we @dralistairgarner.'

The couple will get married for a second time in Spain next month, with Emily previously describing the celebrations as a 'fat, f***-off party'.

She added: 'I think I've nailed it. We're getting married in September. I've very much enjoyed the planning process.'

She went on to tell Luxury London Magazine: 'Choosing napkins and stuff. I'm like, "My God, my life is here!"'

Emily, who has been inspired by the Eighties fashion on Rivals, is pushing the boat out in all areas and will also be opting for a 'big' wedding dress.

Discussing her plans for a show-stopping gown, she told Grazia magazine: 'Since Rivals, in terms of fashion, I tend to go quite big now generally.'

Eva Herzigova and her business leader partner Gregorio Marsiaj exchanged vows in Italy last month after a 25-year romance. 

The couple were joined by their three sons George, Philippe and Edward along with their close family and friends as they said 'I do' at the church of San Vito in Italy.  

Eva, 53, looked every inch the happy bride in her white Lanvin gown, but social media spectators claimed the model appeared somewhat underdressed for the special occasion.

Sharing their thoughts on X, one wrote: 'She looks like she skipped right over the wedding dress to the honeymoon garb.'

Another added: 'I found it unsuitable...three sizes too big.' While a third wrote: 'No matter how gorgeous you are, your wedding day deserves a little effort! Otherwise, [you] might as well wear your PJs.’

Others, however, praised Eva as an 'elegant' bride, writing: 'She gave me too a sense of elegance and naturalness, how wonderful!'

Another said: 'She looks gorgeous, and the dress is just perfect. Classy, romantic and age-appropriate.'

Following their vows, the wedding party travelled to Palazzo Carignano, where they completed a civil ceremony inside the historic Sala dei Plebisciti.

One of the most high-profile celebrity weddings of the year saw Dua Lipa marry Callum Turner after dating for a little over two years. 

For the couple's legal ceremony in London, Dua opted for a Schiaparelli skirt suit with white gloves, a Bulgari necklace and a wide-brimmed white hat for an unusual, fashion-forward bridal ensemble. 

However, fans were distracted by the skirt's 'padding ', which one person said was 'driving them crazy' because the suit was 'otherwise perfect'.

Sharing their thoughts on X, they said: '(love this so much) Dua and how this look truly feels like a personal choice but the visible padding is driving me crazy';

Meanwhile, another wrote: 'The thing about the padding on the sides of the jacket being visible, what does that mean?'

'It's cute, but someone pointed out that the hip pads are showing in almost every shot and I can't unsee it,' added another.

Others defended her, saying that the fashion faux pas didn't matter in the grand scheme of things: 'Picture of Dua looking happy and in love and you're looking at her exposed hip line';

'Visible padding on a wedding dress and you'd let her go? It's not a 4K fashion shoot jeez, it's her wedding day. Celebrities aren't allowed one imperfect angle now? Let Dua live, she looks stunning.'

Lisa added: 'The discussion around Dua Lipa's bridal look highlights how important construction and fit are in tailoring.

'Internal padding is often used to create shape and structure, but ideally it should remain invisible. When support elements become noticeable, they can distract from the clean silhouette the designer intended.'

The couple exchanged vows in a modest ceremony at the famous Marylebone Town Hall with just eight guests present, ahead of a three-day celebration in Sicily. 

In May 2018, Suits star Meghan Markle walked down the aisle at Windsor's St George's Chapel in front of 600 guests to wed Prince Harry.

However, while the Duchess of Sussex's wedding dress was loved by many, some accused the newly appointed princess of opting for a dress that didn't fit, or indeed was far too big.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Katy Perry said that she believed Meghan's Givenchy gown was in need of 'one more fitting'.

Comparing her bridal look to sister-in-law Kate Middleton's wedding dress, Katy Perry jokingly quipped: 'Kate won!'

However, in defence of the more oversized design, Harper's Bazaar writer Mahalia Chang explained that Givenchy designer Claire Waight Keller would likely have intentionally chosen that design to allow Meghan to move more freely on the day.

'Fabric, as well as the triple silk organza used to make the underskirt, is extremely thick, stiff and does not allow for much stretch,' she wrote.

'If one were to hazard a guess, you would say that Keller and Markle purposefully chose a more conservative cut along the bodice and sleeves to let the bride move and breathe in the dress more comfortably.'

According to Lisa, Meghan's 'beautifully minimalist' gown 'divided opinion because many people expect bridalwear to have a more closely tailored finish'.

'In bridal fashion, even a deliberate loose silhouette still needs precision tailoring to ensure it photographs well from every angle,' she said.

It was a dress that left millions around the world in awe, inspiring a whole new generation of brides-to-be.

But the designer behind Princess Diana's iconic wedding felt rather differently. In fact she was left speechless and 'feeling faint' when she saw the dress on the big day.

Designers Elizabeth and David Emanuel were behind the antique lace and ivory silk taffeta gown Lady Diana Spencer wore as she walked down the aisle to meet Prince Charles.

But as the wedding dress designers watched a then-20-year-old Diana walk to St Paul's on the television, Elizabeth said she was 'horrified' on seeing how creased the dress had become.

Speaking to ITV during the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle back in 2018, Elizabeth said: 'We did know it would crease a bit but when I saw her arrive at St Paul's and we saw the creasing I actually felt faint.

'I was horrified, really, because it was quite a lot of creasing. It was a lot more than we thought.'

In June 1993, singer Mariah Carey tied the knot with Tommy Mottola at New York City's St Patrick's Cathedral.

For the big day, the singer took inspiration from Princess Diana and opted for a lavish ruffled Vera Wang gown with a 27ft train and 10ft veil.

According to Vera, Mariah 'was very moved and influenced' by Princess Diana's 1981 royal wedding to then-Prince Charles'.

She previously told Page Six: 'It was very much like Diana at Westminster Abbey.

'She wanted that level of pomp and circumstance and romance and volume. She really wanted a princess look, and it was just one of those weddings that was truly a fairytale in the sense of scale.'

However, while the dress was certainly a head-turner, some took note of the voluminous off-the-shoulder sleeves, and indeed the possibility of a fashion faux pas.

Fortunately for Mariah, she had a rather large bouquet of flowers to cover any accidental arm slips.

Lisa added: 'Off-the-shoulder styles are romantic and timeless, but they require careful fitting and support. If straps continually slip or need adjusting, it can affect both comfort and confidence throughout the day.'

For years, many dream of that long-awaited walk down the aisle to their Prince Charming.

Yet when Nicky Hilton exited a Bentley to say 'I Do' to wealthy English heir James Rothschild in a £50,000 Valentino couture dress, her lengthy train became tangled underneath the wheel of the bridal car.

Escorted out of the hotel by her father, the hotel heiress had a brief scare when she tripped over her train as she got into her car but managed to hold herself up and made it into the vehicle without losing her dignity.

Fortunately, a hotel assistant was on hand to help her with the gown and avoid the wardrobe malfunction from escalating any further.

For her star-studded nuptials at Kensington Palace, Nicky donned a stunning long-sleeve lace gown and traditional veil fit for a royal, which bore a remarkable resemblance to the wedding dress worn by Kate Middleton.

Yet according to Lisa, her 'long cathedral veil' came with expected 'practical challenges'.

'The longer and more elaborate the veil, the greater the risk of it catching underfoot or snagging during the celebrations,' she said.

Celine Dion tied the knot with her late husband Rene Angelil in December 1994 in Montreal, Canada, and left her mark with a striking bridal look.

The singer was dressed in a stunning white lace and satin dress with plunging neckline, and she added a touch of opulence with a sparkling headpiece covering her forehead, along with a traditional white veil.

However, while it may have been a look that would be discussed for decades to come, Celine's crystal headpiece weighed nearly seven pounds and was sewn directly into her hair.

And not long after she said 'I Do,' the strong pressure of the tiara, which was covered in 2,000 Swarovski crystals, began to cause her an immense amount of pain.

The morning after her wedding day, Celine discovered a bump 'the size of an egg in the middle of my forehead' and paid a visit to a doctor where she was given a three-week course of antibiotics.

Despite the fashion disaster, Celine was said to have joked to her late husband, 'It's too late now, we're married,' and has always insisted she has no regrets from the big day.

'Celine's bridal look is a reminder that bigger isn't always better. Statement accessories can create unforgettable fashion moments, but comfort and wearability should always be considered alongside visual impact,' said Lisa.

Former glamour model Katie Price is certainly no stranger to a wedding, but few can forget the pink designer dress she wore for her high-profile nuptials to Peter Andre in September 2005.

Katie hit the headlines when she walked down the aisle in the showstopping number by designer Isabell Kristensen, which at the time was worth £20,000 and boasted a whopping 22ft train.

However, while the impeccable train certainly turned heads, it also ran the risk of being crumpled, particularly given that the reality television star travelled to the venue in a Cinderella-style 'pumpkin' carriage pulled by six horses.

The unique gown was voted the Worst Wedding dress by a LIVING poll in 2009, and the following year Katie described the dress as one of her biggest fashion faux pas to date.

Lisa noted: 'A wedding dress should retain its shape and elegance throughout the day. Fabrics that crease heavily or don't hold their structure can appear less polished in photographs, particularly during a long celebration.'
