Three sisters from London who died at Brighton Beach had visited the lake where their mother drowned just two days before the tragedy, it has been revealed.

Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, from Uxbridge, were pulled from the sea off the busy seaside town on May 13.

They were all pronounced dead at the scene in what police described as a "tragic incident".

The circumstances of their deaths still remains unclear.

But an investigation by The Sunday Times discovered that in the 48 hours before the bodies of the sisters were found, the trio made a visit to the lake where their mother Janice Adetoro died 16 years earlier and had visited her grave.

Cousin Natalie Walters-Daniel, 33, believes there was a “deeper meaning” to the sisters’ visit, when they did not seek out other family members who live nearby.

Ahead of an inquest into their deaths set to take place next month, Ms Walters-Daniel said her cousins never got over the death of their mother.

She told the Sunday Times: “To lose their mum at the ages that they were, it was the crucial stages of growing up and becoming young women.

“The years where a mother’s presence and guidance and reassurance and love should be, they didn’t receive that.

“And for them to come to Birmingham, to take that moment that they did within the lake and also to see their mother, I think that there is definitely a connection there.”

Their mother was found dead at Brookvale Lake aged 43. She had been living with mental health issues for at least two years prior to her disappearance.

Her brother Lincoln said at the time: “The girls are so upset and can’t stop thinking about you and for their sake we need you to make contact.”

Ms Walters-Daniel said she hoped the inquest next month could shed some light on the sisters' tragic deaths.
