A "coercive, controlling and manipulative" man who murdered his partner has been jailed for life.

Ismail Younis was found dead at the home of Imran Uddin in the Hockley area of Birmingham in August last year, three days after he disappeared.

West Midlands Police said Uddin had strangled Younis before stabbing him many times even after he was dead.

Uddin, 35, had showed no remorse and was "a toxic narcissist who had to have it all his way", Det Sgt Jeanette Roberts said. He was told he would spend a minimum of 21 years in prison.

The couple's two-year relationship had started well, but Uddin soon became more controlling, police said.

Uddin controlled his partner's clothes, appearance, and access to his mobile phone.

He also "mocked Ismail's autism and regularly physically attacked him to assert his control".

Detectives said they discovered in the hours before he was killed, Younis had told Uddin he wanted to leave him after finding evidence Uddin was cheating on him.

On 17 August, Younis was last seen on CCTV, riding on Uddin's scooter heading to his address on Richmond Road.

After killing his partner, Uddin caught a train from Birmingham New Street to Milton Keynes where he had family and the police force said he "didn't seem to have a care in the world as he spent the next day getting his hair cut, eyebrows threaded and a bite to eat".

Uddin was arrested in the Aylesbury area on 21 August.

The force said Younis' blood was also found on his phone, and the knife used to stab Younis was washed and put back in its draw at Uddin's home.

Roberts said: "Ismail's was life was taken by a coercive, controlling and manipulative partner.

"Enraged that Ismail had found the strength to take back his independence and end the relationship, he manoeuvred Ismail to his death."

In a statement, Younis' family said: "Ismail - you will always be our little boy, but our lives without you will never be the same.

"You may no longer be with us, but you will never be forgotten.

"We carry Ismail's name, his memory and our love for him in our hearts forever."
