Trans activists gatecrash Green women's event to protest discussion about female health

Trans rights protesters gatecrashed a Green Party Conference event discussing women's health this morning.

A member of the party's executive was in the 'intimidating' group from the LGBTIQA+ Greens that barged into the Green Party Women fringe in an attempt to prevent a speaker addressing the audience.

They unfurled a large trans flag while physiotherapist and campaigner Elaine Miller spoke via Zoom about female pelvic health, with GPW members physically preventing them from covering the screen.

Ahead of the protest the LGBT group accused Ms Miller, who was speaking in a professional medical capacity, of being a 'notorious campaigner against trans rights' and said her appearance was a 'safeguarding issue'.

But Green Party Women hit back, saying the demo was another example of the party intimidating women's rights campaigners.

Among those who took part in the protest was Dylan Lewis-Creser, the non-binary co-chair of LGBTIQA+ Greens who sits with leader Zack Polanski on the Green Party executive.

Jude English, the chair of Green Party Women, told the Mail the protest amounted to 'intimidation'.

'It is very undermining to have a member of the executive trying to no-platform a female speaker.

'They are preventing women in the party from having access  to the political system in the party.'

Ms Miller told the Mail she was 'surprised to find herself branded a 'transphobe' as part of her work covers problems suffered by women transitioning into men after they take testosterone.

And she attacked their desire to stifle debate rather than engage in one.

'They would rather prevent a debate at party conference ... make that make sense,' she said.

'It's a real shame.'

Writing on X she added: 'Womens' health is surrounded by environmental issues, I’d have thought that would be of interest to anyone at the Green Party conference.'

The LGBTIQA+ Greens said in a statement that the subject matter of the event was 'a serious and important issue relating to healthcare'.

But it added: 'We cannot accept the platforming of a notorious campaigner against the rights of trans people.'

It came after women's rights group the Green Women's Declaration was banned from attending the conference in Brighton.

According to the Telegraph the party executive said the group, which works on 'defending sex-based rights' including female-only spaces – could 'make our trans members feel unsafe'.

After today's protest the group said it was an example of 'Institutional misogyny writ large'

'We are so angry about this dreadful attempt at intimidation but we are not going anywhere.'

Ahead of the start of the conference, the party also included 'mothers and fathers' in a list of unacceptable terminology.

It urged members to say 'parents and carers' to not upset those who do not fit gender norms.

The Green Party has been approached to comment.
